The Faculty of Economics only accepts students who are over the age of 18 at the time of enrolment (by default, 1 September), which is the legal age in Hungary. Exceptions to this rule can only be made in the following cases:
- if the application is submitted to one of the self-financed programmes;
- if both the prospective student and a close relative/legal guardian (who must be over the age of 18) already reside in Hungary and have a Hungarian residence permit.
As proof of the above, prospective students under the age of 18 are required to upload the following documents to the application platform (in addition to the other compulsory elements of the application) by the deadline (by default, late April or early May):
- A Declaration completed by the parent (authoriser) and the authorised person (legal representative/guardian, who must be over 18 and must reside in Hungary) stating the presence of the latter in Hungary together with the minor and his availability to take care of all the administrative issues related to the minor’s university and to other official situations.
- A scanned copy of both sides of the residence permit of the authorised person. The residence permit must be valid until after the underage applicant turns 18.
- A photocopy of both sides of the residence permit of the applicant if he/she resides in Hungary and has one.
- An official bilingual Authorisation for exercising legal consent to statements of a minor of limited legal capacity (Authorisation, for short).
Both the Declaration and the Authorisation are to be signed in blue ink and by two witnesses. The original and the photocopy of the Authorisation document must be submitted at enrolment. The only exception to submitting the Authorisation is if the minor is accompanied at the enrolment by his/her parent, in which case the student’s birth certificate can prove the legal relationship between the parent and the minor. In all cases, the passports of all the parties (minor plus parent and/or authorised person/legal guardian) must be presented, and their photocopies are to be submitted during the enrolment process. See also Documents for enrolment.
The above does not apply to Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship holders as the programme requires candidates to attain the age of 18 by the start of their studies.
